2023

A study of grasses and how they support each other. These grass bodies are sculptures, as well as the birth of Grounds for Becoming, my undergraduate thesis in dance and choreography.

What started as a woven quilt made out of live grass, became a photo project in which I attempted to capture and recreate liveliness out of artifical material. I arrived at bodies; who could be shaped, shape each other, and play in their own colorful landscapes.

Process

1. Documenting grasses local to Bennington, VT
2. Documenting how grass was treated at home, in NYC
3. Documenting my body in grass
4. Sewing together a quilt: grass, seran wrap, dental floss
5. Documenting its decomposition
6. Cutting up all images: fabricating artificial grass
